How to play Rummy
Two to four players, every player for themselves
The deal: 10 cards each for two players, 7 for three or four. The next card starts the discard pile; the rest is the stock. The deal passes left each hand.
Your turn: take the top card of the stock or of the discard pile, meld or lay off if you can, then discard one card — never the card you just took from the pile.
Melds: 3 or 4 of a rank (a set), or 3 or more in a row in one suit (a run). Aces are low: A-2-3 is a run, Q-K-A is not.
Laying off: add a card to any meld on the table, yours or anyone else's.
Going out: get rid of your last card by melding, laying off or discarding it. The final discard is optional.
Scoring: whoever goes out scores the cards left in the other hands: picture cards 10, aces 1, the rest their number.
Example: Max goes out; you hold K, 7, 2 (19) and Ruby holds 9, A (10). Max scores 29, or 58 if Max went rummy.
Going rummy: go out in one turn, having melded and laid off nothing before, and your score is doubled.
The stock runs out: the discard pile, all but its top card, is turned over without shuffling. If it runs out again: no score, and the same dealer deals again.
Winning: the first player to reach 100 at the end of a hand wins.
Choosing a card: tap a card to lift it, tap it again to discard it — or use the button. Press and hold a card to move it in your hand.
Keyboard: ← → move through your hand, Enter lifts or discards the card, S stock, D discard pile, H hint, Escape closes a panel.
