How to play Indian Rummy

Two to four players, every player for themselves · points only, free play

The cards: two decks and two printed jokers, 106 cards; 13 each. The next card starts the discard pile.
A turn: take the top card of the stock or of the discard pile, then discard one — never the card you just took from the pile. A joker on the discard pile can’t be taken.
Dropping: at the start of your turn you may drop out of the deal: 20 points before your first draw, 40 after. If everyone else drops, the last player wins.
The stock runs out: the discard pile, all but its top card, is shuffled into a new stock.
The wild joker: a card cut and laid face up beside the stock. Every card of its rank is a joker, as are the two printed jokers. If a printed joker is cut, the Aces are wild.
Sequences: 3 or more cards of one suit in order (A-2-3 and Q-K-A, never K-A-2). Pure: no joker standing in for a card.
Sets: a set is 3 or 4 cards of one rank, all different suits. Jokers may fill sequences and sets.
Declaring: after drawing, put down one card and show the other 13: every card in a group, at least two sequences, at least one of them pure. If not, it’s a wrong show: 80 points, and the deal ends.
Points are bad. Whoever declares scores 0. The others count their cards not in a group: picture cards and Aces 10, number cards their number, jokers 0.
No pure sequence: all 13 cards count. A pure sequence but no second sequence: all but the pure sequence count. Most points in a deal: 80.
Example: Ruby declares. You hold a pure sequence and a set; your loose cards are K♠, 9♦ and 4♣ = 23 points. Max has no pure sequence: all 13 count, 96, capped at 80.
Each deal stands alone: points add up deal by deal. Free play: points only.
