Description
Five Card Draw is one of poker’s oldest and purest formats. Every player receives a complete five-card hand, gets one opportunity to improve it, and must decide whether their opponents’ betting tells a convincing story. This free online poker game puts you at a proper table against AI opponents, with no download or account required.## How to Play Five Card Draw
### Choose Your Table
Start by selecting a four-handed or six-handed table. You always occupy seat one, while the remaining seats are controlled by AI opponents.
### Blinds and Starting Chips
Every player begins with a $1,000 stack. The small blind is $5 and the big blind is $10, creating the initial pot before any cards are dealt.
Betting is no-limit, so raises are not restricted to a fixed amount. A player can commit any amount up to their entire remaining stack.
### The Initial Deal
Each player receives five cards face down. Your opponents cannot see your cards, and you cannot see theirs.
### First Betting Round
The first round of betting takes place immediately after the deal. Depending on the previous action, you can:
* Fold and surrender your hand
* Call by matching the current bet
* Raise by increasing the amount required to continue
If every opponent folds, the last remaining player wins the pot immediately.
### The Draw
Players who remain in the hand can discard up to three cards and receive replacements. You may also stand pat by keeping all five of your original cards.
Standing pat often suggests a strong made hand, but it can also be used deceptively. Your opponents’ draw choices can provide useful clues about what they may be holding.
### Second Betting Round
A final round of betting follows the draw. Players can check when no bet has been made or choose to fold, call or raise as the action develops.
### Showdown and Side Pots
If two or more players remain after the final betting round, the best five-card poker hand wins the pot. If everyone except one player folds, no showdown is needed.
When a player goes all-in for less than the full bet, the game creates the appropriate side pot. The all-in player can win only the part of the pot they contributed towards, while players with additional chips at stake compete for the side pot.
## Tips to Get Started
* Holding one pair? Discard the other three cards and draw three replacements.
* With three of a kind, keep the trips and draw two. With two pair, discard the fifth card and draw one.
* Standing pat represents a very strong hand, so pay attention when an opponent draws nothing.
* Position matters. Acting later gives you more information about your opponents’ draws and betting before you make your decision.

## Five Card Draw Strategy Tips### Use Standard Draws as Your Starting Point
With one pair, discard the other three cards. Draw two cards when holding three of a kind, or one card when holding two pair or a four-card straight or flush draw.
### Read How Many Cards Opponents Draw
Draw counts are valuable clues. Someone taking three cards often has a pair, while a one-card draw may indicate two pair or an attempt to complete a straight or flush. Standing pat usually represents a strong made hand such as a straight, flush or full house.
### Consider Standing Pat as a Bluff
Keeping all five cards can make a weak hand look much stronger, especially if you showed aggression before the draw. Use this sparingly because observant AI opponents may become less willing to fold if your betting and draw patterns repeatedly fail to make sense.
### Protect the Value of Position
Acting last allows you to see whether opponents check, bet or raise before making your choice. Use that extra information to control the pot with uncertain hands and apply pressure when everyone shows weakness.
### Do Not Chase Every Draw
A four-card straight or flush can be tempting, but drawing one card does not guarantee improvement. If the pot is small and the price of continuing is high, folding can be better than paying too much for a single chance to complete the hand.
### Remember That Your Draw Tells a Story
Opponents can interpret your discard count just as you interpret theirs. Keep your betting consistent with the hand you are representing, and vary your approach occasionally so your play does not become predictable. In no-limit betting, also plan your raise carefully: it must normally be at least as large as the previous bet or raise unless you are going all-in for less.
